Is an unlimited car wash membership worth it?

Tell us three things; get a clear answer. The math is simple — the surprise is usually how few washes per month tips it.

How to use the membership break-even calculator

  1. Enter the single-wash price at the car wash you're evaluating (off-menu, no membership).
  2. Enter the monthly membership price for unlimited washes.
  3. Slide the frequency control to how often you actually wash your car (honest estimate — most people overestimate by 50%).
  4. Read the verdict on the right: break-even washes per month, your effective cost per wash, annual savings or overpayment, and a clear buy or skip recommendation. The sensitivity table below shows the math at other wash frequencies.

Things the calculator doesn't price in

  • Cancellation friction — some chains make it hard to leave. Across the WashIndex chain corpus, cancel-friction rates range from under 5% to over 25% of membership-discussing reviews. Check the per-chain profile before signing up.
  • Behavioral shift — most people wash more often once they have a membership because the marginal cost feels like zero. If you'd actually shift from 2 to 6 washes per month, the value tilts further in membership's favor.
  • Annual / multi-year discounts — some chains offer 10–15% off the monthly price for annual prepay. Adjust the input to test that scenario.
  • Family / fleet additions — many chains let you add a second vehicle for $5–10/mo. The calculator assumes one car.
  • Weather and seasonality — if you live in a snow market, winter washing is when memberships pay off most.
